The elephant’s design is covered with seemingly random shapes, reflecting the historical use of ivory for items like pool balls, piano keys, bagpipes, and buttons before the advent of plastic.

Although synthetic alternatives have long existed, illegal ivory trade and poaching persist. The pool balls used for the elephant’s eyes are numbered 88, symbolising good fortune in Chinese culture.
