The Baan Huay Hin Lad Nok Community inhabits a rural village in Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand. The school provides an excellent combination of the core curriculum and the community’s own culture and Karen tradition. You can read more about the BHHLNCS here.

After graduating from the community school, some students wanted to continue their study outside the village, but they are restricted by their family’s financial situation and the difficulties in travelling from their remote village to the distant school in town.

One of the current sponsors for the main BHHLN project, Andaman Yeo, visited the BHHLN village in early September 2019. She was very impressed by the students, the school teacher and its committee, and the community itself, and started a campaign to collect funds to help BHHLNCS students with their further study outside the village.

Andaman saw how well BHHLNCS students learned from the curriculum, one adapted by combining the core curriculum with the community’s own culture and tradition of Karen. During her visit, the students read out some children books to her, showed her a traditional sword dance and talked to her with ease. The teacher showed her a small part of the teaching method, and students’ work such as drawings and weaving, and the school committee and the local cultural teachers gave her a tour of the beehives and the small scale honey manufacturing.
