Arisa, a scholarship student of BCSWU who we have supported for 4 years recently graduated. And, even better, Arisa is now employed as an information collector and scholarship coordinator at the Tak province branch of the Dharunatorn Foundation.
She has come a long way in those 4 years and we are so happy to see she is putting her skills and experience to good use in her community.
Arisa now happily looks after and supports other scholarship students, all of which are indigenous Karen, and some are migrants from Myanmar.
Aunchernpond is one of three students whom PCF supports at Bodhivijjalaya College Srinakharinwirot University. She is majoring in Education for Community Development at the Faculty of Education. This is a five-year programme and PCF has been supporting her since the first academic year.
Aunchernpond is from a farmer family in Tak province. She wants to help her own community in the areas of child illiteracy, ethnicity (discrimination) and environmental issues and also with getting fair prices for their products.
Aunchernpond thinks education is the key to development. At first, she had no plans to become a teacher, but when she visited a refugee camp and a remote village in the jungle, she saw that there was a school but no teachers and she realised how important teachers are. So now she wants to go back to her own community to teach English and Social Studies, and she intends to ask other postgraduates to help teach the other subjects.
This is a five-year programme and PCF has been supporting her since the first academic year. Chutima is currently in her final year with a GPA of 3.79 in the previous semester.
Chutima impressed us during her interviews four years ago and continues to do so during her studies. Especially her commitment to improving the situation in marginalised communities with the knowledge and skills gained from her studies.
