Find, help, and empower people in need
We rely on financial support from two sources: sponsors and donors. We are constantly seeking sponsors who are willing to fund entire projects, or parts of projects. We rely on donors to support the day-to-day operations of our organisation and to enable us to finance small-scale projects and urgent community needs.
Sponsors financially underwrite a project. Sponsoring local projects will change the lives of many, and we ensure that 100% of project-designated funds are used for that specific project.
Support one of the projects you find on our website, or let us know what kind of projects you are looking for. We know the needs in the communities and will select a project that aligns with your interests. Our team is committed to maintaining full transparency and provides all sponsors with regular project updates.
Donors contribute to help sustain our operations, as well as help fund our projects as needed. We are a small non-profit organisation with a dedicated in-house team based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. While our overhead expenses are low and our salaries are modest, we still need to have our operating costs covered. Donors enable us to do our work.
Funds received from donors are not earmarked for specific costs. This means that we can also allocate these funds to projects that are in urgent need of help. We hope you will feel a similar satisfaction to what we get from our work and from seeing the results that we achieve together. Without you we cannot exist. Thank you so much.
Thanks to the generous funding of our supporters we have been able to achieve so much and help many children and adults improve their chances in life. We want to do far more, but we can’t do it without your help…
Our partnership with IMPECT and support for the Baan Pha Lai Community School provides the much-needed support so the teachers, staff and 80 Preschool students from 13 marginalised ethnic minority groups can have a stable and effective learning environment.
The Foundation for Applied Linguistics (FAL) offers a specifically designed language programme targeted to improve the language skills of ethnic children.

Buzzy Bee Bike, an e-bike adventure company based here in Chiang Mai, had the marvellous idea of promoting PCF to their customers by including our logo, website, and contact information on their delicious souvenir jars of honey.
Buzzy Bee are our long-time friend and sponsor, and they also promote us on www.buzzybeebike.com/philanthropy-connections... :
"If you are looking for an organisation/project to sponsor, we highly recommend considering a donation to PCF, as we recently did as well. Your money will definitely be well spent."
We thank the owner, Joost Rokx, and Buzzy Bee Bike for their kind support.
If you happen to know other businesses interested in CSR programmes similar to this one, please ask them to consider PCF!

Meet Hoeng Vorleak, a 17-year-old scholarship student in rural Cambodia who is currently in Grade 11 in High School.
In a letter to her sponsor, Hoeng Vorleak wrote, "I would like to wish you a long and beautiful life, safe travels, happiness, and more love from the people around you. I commit myself to studying hard, doing my best, and listening to the teachers to achieve good results."
She is one of 63 students we support in Cambodia. We provide them with scholarships so that they can create better opportunities in life for themselves and their families, and strive for better circumstances than those they currently live in.
We extend our gratitude to Hoeng Vorleak’s sponsors, Reineke Bakhoven and Frank de Vos, for generously supporting three students per year since 2017.

We have well-established selection criteria that has been developed since our founding in 2011 and a project team that actively searches for valuable initiatives.
First, we intentionally seek out projects that are community based, are overlooked by others and have no easy access to external support. If we find they are capable of securing funds themselves, we move on and look for those that have yet to receive help.
Second, we make sure that the project is within our range of activities supported. While we have a broad focus, we do not support every initiative. Currently, our project scope includes education, healthcare, childcare, housing, economic and community development, emergency relief, and support for refugees and migrants.
Third and finally, we conduct a thorough due diligence process with our dedicated project team. This ensures that the project is conducting their activities in an ethical and professional manner. However, it also builds a strong relationship between our organisation and our projects and partners. Because of this relationship, we are able to learn and understand what the needs of the community truly are, and understand how we can best help.
Poor and vulnerable communities face more than one kind of challenge. A village may have a quality primary school, but no clinic. Another community may have a school and a clinic, but economic constraints may force children to forego education for basic employment.
We cannot have a one-sized approach to alleviating the impacts of poverty if we truly want to respond to diverse and ever-changing needs.
Our highly dedicated and motivated project team conducts a rigorous due diligence process in order to understand the quality and full needs of a project.
While the project is on-going, our project team then conducts regular monitoring and evaluation, and keeps in regular communication with each project.
Yes, definitely! This is the basic principle of our organisation. We only support projects if we are convinced that they will improve the situation of the beneficiaries. We make sure that our support is needed and that it will be put to use effectively. If we would not be sure that we can make a difference then we would not support that project.
If you are sponsoring a specific project or projects, we will keep you informed through informal emails, social media and website posts, quarterly newsletters and official reporting.
If you are a donor, we will communicate with you via social media, quarterly newsletters, our website and informal emails.
If you have any questions about your project, you can always contact us and we will do our best to answer you timely and in full.
We appreciate your interest in supporting our projects. While it is possible to have your contribution directed to a specific project, we kindly ask that you contribute unrestricted funding.
Unrestricted donations are very important: By not restricting your contribution for a specific project, you enable us to allocate our resources more efficiently and where the needs are greatest. You also empower us to find and involve sponsors who fund entire projects.
Our ability to operate and conduct the due diligence, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building and reporting also depends on the generous contributions of our donors.
Not only CAN you visit, but we welcome it!
We love to share our work and meet those who support us.
Our very humble office is located in a small, mainly residential neighborhood in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
If you sponsor or co-sponsor a project, then you are welcome to join our team on a visit to the projects. However, many projects work with vulnerable children and adults. In these cases, visitors may not be appropriate. This consideration will be done on a case by case basis and will always prioritise the safety and wellbeing of those we support.
For sponsors, 92,5% of your contribution goes directly to the project, while 7,5% goes to project-related administrative costs.
General donations play a unique role in Philanthropy Connections. These contributions are used for our operational costs. While not explicitly earmarked for a single project, the full orientation of our resources is directed towards the maintenance, improvement, management and discovery of projects, as well as the basic requirements to maintain an international nonprofit organisation.
Our ability to operate, and conduct the due diligence, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building and reporting depends on the generous contributions of our donors.
Our ability to properly investigate and provide flexible support to projects in urgent need also depends on these unrestricted donations.
Philanthropy Connections has been founded with the strongest determination to ensure that available funds are used in the most efficient way to improve the situation of people in need. The efforts we have taken to keep our overhead costs as low as possible in order to achieve that, form a guiding principle in our work and internal decision-making processes.
With the same resolve we are committed to the transparency of our financial reporting, which shows in full where every euro, baht and dollar goes.

We appreciate any interest in supporting our work. While we do accept in-kind donations, we are careful to ensure that the gifts represent a real need to a community we support, and can be effectively coordinated to be delivered in an efficient and cost-effective way.
If you have any questions or ideas about how to contribute in this way, please contact us.
We have had many wonderful volunteers over the years who have contributed to PCF in so many ways.
However, most volunteer work, meaning in-country or with the projects, has become more and more difficult to support.
Foreigners are only allowed to volunteer here when they come on a non-immigrant O visa and with a work permit. This involves a lot of paperwork, time and resources for us and only succeeds if we get approval from the relevant authorities. This only makes sense if the volunteer indeed has ‘special’ skills we need and can commit for at least six months, but preferably a year.
Otherwise we do welcome volunteers to work remotely on specific projects. Currently we have volunteers working on brand redesign, video editing work and data analytics.
The most effective way to help our organisation is by supporting us financially. However, we have many supporters who have helped in many ways. If you have any ideas, please contact us.
We support long-term programs and short-term projects. This requires us to commit to things for many years at a time, while also focusing on building sustainability and self-sufficiency into the projects we support.
This requires us to find a balance between getting involved in quality, long-term projects and having stable donations that allow us to continue this long-term funding, while also seeking out the new projects that would otherwise remain invisible.
I have been very lucky in my life – I have two healthy children and lead a privileged life. I can and I should pass on some of that. Philanthropy Connections cares for people who urgently need our help.
I know Philanthropy Connections to be a transparent and an unpretentious organisation: They are based in a modest and functional office, have low overhead costs, and work with local staff and many volunteers who are inspired and motivated by the way the organisation works.
These are a few of the main reasons why VideoScope supports this Foundation by making movies to show the valuable work they do. We have visited and filmed over 10 projects in Thailand and Cambodia and have witnessed that the approach of the Foundation works: the communities are making progress in building a more independent and dignified existence for themselves.
Often you hear people say that 90% of what you give will not end up where it should. To give is good, but to give to the one where you don’t have that feeling is not. To me Philanthropy Connections is transparent! Just think about how lucky we are that we can give. Providing for people, like you would provide for yourself. You will find that giving makes you a happier person. It makes the circle complete.
As part of our CSR strategy at Zodiac Aerospace in North Thailand, each year we hold many activities to support the local community. Through our cooperation with PCF we intend to realise a win-win situation where both partners can achieve more. Our support enables PCF to do more projects and with the help of PCF we are able to optimise our own projects. This in turn provides more local communities with quality improvements for long-term success.
As a donor it is important that I can be certain that my donation is used in a transparent and right way; Philanthropy Connections does exactly that. A personal relationship and trust is the result of this basic principle. I know that for PCF the wellbeing of the people they help comes first.
The need is so great. What I have to offer so little. So it’s important to be sure that my small donations go to the intended beneficiaries for the intended purpose with the minimum of delay, administrative red tape and cost. The evident commitment of the dedicated team of professionals at Philanthropy Connections coupled with their transparent “open book” approach never fails to give me that confidence.
